AYuTe Africa Challenge Uganda
AYuTe Africa Challenge Uganda 2026 Season 5 | Go Big Go bold GO BIG. GO BOLD. Innovate agriculture. Build for impact. The AYuTe Africa Challenge Uganda Season 5 is a national platform for young innovators who are not just thinking differently but building differently. We are calling bold creators, problem-solvers, and builders who are reshaping agriculture through agritech and agribusiness solutions that work for real farmers, in real communities, across Uganda. And yes, this is where ideas meet opportunity. We are looking for solutions that can transform farming systems, strengthen agricultural value chains, and unlock better livelihoods for smallholder farmers. Winners will access UGX 205,000,000 in catalytic financing, along with mentorship, incubation, and entry into a powerful ecosystem designed to help ideas grow into scalable businesses. The future of agriculture will not be predicted. It will be built. Go Big. Go Bold. Applications are now open.
About the Challenge
AYuTe (Agriculture, Youth and Technology) is not a program sitting on the sidelines.
It is a launchpad for builders.
Powered by Heifer International Uganda, backed by the Mastercard Foundation, and implemented in partnership with CURAD, AYuTe exists for one reason, to back young people (18–35) who are already building solutions for agriculture, or are bold enough to start.
Since 2022, AYuTe Uganda has been more than an idea but a momentum in motion:
Engaged 900+ young innovators and entrepreneurs across Uganda
Awarded catalytic funding to 36 winning ventures
Trained 200+ youth in business model development, pitching, and compliance
Reached millions through media and digital channels, generating UGX 200M+ in PR value
Season 5 is not only a continuation but a shift.
Agriculture is changing faster, and the challenges facing smallholder farmers are more defined, more urgent, and more complex. So, the response must be sharper. Season 5 introduces a stronger focus: every applicant must align their solution to defined agricultural challenge areas, ensuring that every funded innovation directly responds to a real, documented barrier affecting Uganda’s farming systems.
We are looking for agritech builders, agribusiness founders, system disruptors, and problem solvers with solutions that go beyond ideas and into real use, real farms, and real impact.
This is about scale, not only stories.
Through UGX 205,000,000 in catalytic financing, hands-on mentorship, incubation, and access to a serious network of partners and experts, AYuTe helps innovators sharpen what they have built and push it into the world where it matters.
From early-stage idea to working solution, from local hustle to scalable venture, this is the bridge.
AYuTe is where youth stop waiting for opportunity and start building it. If you are building something that can shift how agriculture works, you are already part of this story. Go Big. Go Bold.

This year, AYuTe Uganda is calling for solutions that address four specific challenge areas across two competition tracks.
AgriTech track — National competition
The Agritech Innovation Track is calling young innovators across Uganda who are building technology-driven solutions transforming agriculture. Despite the growing demand for affordable and locally adapted agricultural technologies, many smallholder farmers still face challenges accessing real-time information, efficient production tools, mechanization, storage solutions, markets, and financial services. AYuTe Africa Challenge Uganda Season 5 seeks youth-led agritech ventures aged 18–35 that are beyond the concept stage and creating real solutions for farmers, agribusinesses, and agricultural value-chain actors. Solutions may focus on precision and climate-smart production, livestock and aquaculture technology, post-harvest solutions, farm mechanization and energy, or digital market and finance innovations. If your startup is less than three years old, has demonstrated demand, and has the potential to scale impact across Uganda, this is your opportunity to take your innovation further.
Agribusiness track — Busoga sub-region
Challenge Area 1: Growing Small-Scale Processing into Market-Ready Products — is designed for young entrepreneurs in the Busoga sub-region who are building agribusinesses that add value to agricultural produce through processing and transformation. Across Busoga, many farmers still sell raw produce, limiting income and increasing post-harvest losses, and this challenge seeks to support youth-led agribusinesses aged 18–35 that are already operating and working to turn raw agricultural products into higher-value, market-ready goods. The track focuses on businesses within Heifer International Uganda’s priority value chains — horticulture, dairy, oilseeds, and poultry — that are engaged in processing, preservation, packaging, or value addition and have real market traction. Eligible enterprises must be operational (beyond concept stage), based in the Busoga sub-region, have at least one year of revenue and trading history, demonstrate clear market demand, and show potential for job creation and scale. This challenge supports businesses transforming fresh produce into shelf-stable products, dairy and poultry into higher-value goods, and grains or oilseeds into processed products, all with the goal of strengthening incomes, reducing losses, and building stronger rural economies.
Challenge Area 2: Youth-led Green and Circular Agribusinesses — is focused on young entrepreneurs in the Busoga sub-region who are turning agricultural waste, losses, and inefficiencies into income-generating opportunities. Across farming communities, significant value is lost every season through unmanaged waste, post-harvest losses, and reliance on costly non-circular inputs and packaging, while young people closest to these resources often remain excluded from the economic opportunities they create. This challenge seeks to support youth-led agribusinesses aged 18–35 that are already operating and converting agricultural by-products into valuable products and services within horticulture, dairy/beef, oilseeds, and poultry value chains.
Eligible enterprises must demonstrate real operations within at least one of these value chains and fall under circular and green innovation areas such as agro-waste-to-value enterprises that convert manure, litter, and by-products into fertilisers, biochar, feed, or biogas; post-harvest loss reduction and value addition enterprises using drying, cold storage, milling, juicing, or oil extraction to extend shelf life and reduce waste; circular and biodegradable packaging solutions made from agricultural residues such as cassava, banana fibre, or crop waste to replace single-use plastics; or renewable and circular energy solutions for productive agricultural use, including biogas, briquettes, and solar-biomass systems powering farming and agro-processing activities like irrigation, milling, cooling, incubation, and processing.
To qualify, enterprises must be based and operating in at least one Busoga district with verifiable farmer customers, demonstrate potential to scale across the sub-region within 12–18 months, and operate within at least one of the priority value chains — horticulture, dairy/beef, oilseeds, or poultry.
